Georgia held an election for two of five seats on the public service commission on November 3, 2020. The primary was scheduled for June 9, 2020. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger moved the general runoff election to January 5, 2021 from December 1, 2020.[1] The filing deadline was March 6, 2020.
Incumbent Jason Shaw won election in the general election for Georgia Public Service Commission District 1.
Incumbent Lauren McDonald Jr. and Daniel Blackman advanced from the general election for Georgia Public Service Commission District 4.
Election procedure changes in 2020
Ballotpedia provided comprehensive coverage of how election dates and procedures changed in 2020. While the majority of changes occurred as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, some changes occurred for other reasons.
Georgia modified its absentee/mail-in voting and candidate filing procedures for the November 3, 2020, general election as follows:
- Candidate filing procedures: The petitioning deadline for minor-party and unaffiliated candidates was extended to August 14, 2020. The petition signature requirement for independent and minor-party candidates was reduced to 70 percent of their original numbers.
